Who is it for?

Why teens?

Teens are old enough to take on real responsibility and solve more complex problems, but they are still shaping their ideas about what they are capable of. It is a good time for meaningful, hands-on experiences before the stakes are high.

What do teens actually learn?

Level Up is organized into six units: Maintenance Master, Handy Hero, Budget Boss, Confident Communicator, Growth Guru, and Character Champion. There is also a Digital Defender component focused on today's digital world.

Is this just reading and worksheets?

No. Teens practice skills, work through real-life scenarios, discuss situations, complete challenges and missions, and try things they may have never done before. Whenever possible, they actually perform the skill.

What is a Skillbook?

Each teen has a Skillbook where they learn key concepts, reflect, practice, and keep track of the skills they are developing.

Do I need to be handy or an expert to teach it?

No. Skills are explained in plain language, and learning alongside your teen works well. Part of the point is modeling how to figure something out.

Do we need special tools or equipment?

Many lessons use ordinary household items, common hand tools, and things you already have. You can also choose the order of units based on what you have available.

Can it be used in a classroom or co-op?

Yes. The discussion, scenarios, and hands-on practice all work with a group, and units can be taught in any order as a course, elective, or workshop.

How are parents involved?

Level Up encourages parents to continue the learning at home by inviting teens alongside everyday tasks, giving them real responsibility when they are ready, and asking questions instead of immediately giving the answer.

Will Level Up fully prepare my teen for adulthood?

No, and that is not the goal. Level Up cannot teach every skill a teen will ever need. The goal is a foundation of experience solving problems, learning unfamiliar skills, using judgment, and taking responsibility.
